Hi music.blog.lovers and a happy belated new year!

I hope it started as good as with me. It has been a while since I put a mix up, because a lots of changes are lying ahead of me.

This is the last posting I make while I'm in Australia, because in a few days I'm moving back to New Zealand, because I can't stay in Australia permanent but in New Zealand I can thank to my wife (she who has to be obeyed). :-) And I (we) are really looking forward to it.

The today's song is performed by the second band of the now ex-bass player of NEW ORDER, PETER HOOK. I only took the vocal version and the instumental version and made my own 12" version of this wonderful tune, an oldfashioned chronovisor mix.

Heute feiere ich meinen 45. Geburtstag und mein music.blog seinen 5. Jahrestag seit seinem Bestehen. Schon richtig, dass das erste Posting erst im Februar dieses Jahres stattgefunden hat; das wird natuerlich gesondert gefeiert.
Aber was waere ein Geburtstag ohne Geburtstagslied, und das Folgende ist wohl das Beste, was man finden kann. Ich jedenfalls wuensche mir weiterhin viele Besucher hier im blog und viel mehr Rueckmeldungen als bisher. In diesem Sinne wuensche ich allen noch sehr viel Spass mit meinem music.blog fuer die Zukunft!

Today I celebrate my birthday no. 45 and my music.blog the anniversary no. 5 since establishing. It's right that the first posting was made in February; this of course will celebrated seperately.
But what is a birthday without a birthday song? Nothing. And this one is the best one I was able to find. So I wish myself furthermore many visitors of this blog and much more comments than yet. In this spirit I wish you all much fun with my music.blog in the future!

Hello all!

Isn't it wonderful to present music on 11 of 11 in 11? :-)

And here we go.

Recently I rediscovered the music from an outstanding French singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. This did happen because I browsed in the www for movie soundtracks, and there I found 'Narco', a french movie from 2004.

And I also am a fan of the music of FELA KUTI. But what relationship do have FELA and the today's artist I want to present you? It's the presence of the 'funky drummer' TONY ALLEN, who founded the real 'Afro Beat' in the 70s.

In the 70s and 80s he was the drummer in FELA's band, and in the today's tune his play fits perfect to the melancholic sounds of this French genius I introduce you today. I combined the session version from 2006 with the studio version from 2004 into a 'collage of sounds' I would call it.

A sweet hello from the again warmer getting Australia!

Today I present you one of the first ever released femal rap tunes. Luckily I found this fantastic one when I browsed the www about the history of rap.

As far as I know this 12", which is produced by the legerdary JOE GIBBS, yet is not released digitally, and will perhaps never be.

Of course it's a Jamaican version of SUGARHILL GANG'S 'Rappers Delight'. I combined the vocal and the instrumental verson to a typical conservative 'chronovisor mix'.

I was never really happy with my previous attempts at the mix and decided to revisit it one more time. It's shorter than the other versions, but I think it works much better this way - sometimes less is more!

After a longer absence I present you today a Hip-Hop song from 2003 which reached top rankings almost everywhere in the world. It's very nice produced but unfortunately no 12" version ever was released.

Golden Years (Cygnet Extended Mix)

Yes. Another mix of Golden Years.
My Bowie fanaticism knows no end.

This mix features only the original version which I extended to 6:26 minutes. I made use of the remix stems recently made available in an iphone app – but not using an iphone… or the app.

Golden Years is well known enough, no need to go into any description about the song I believe, as it features on almost all best of Bowie compilations.

One interesting note though is that a few folks actually did cover this song. Reason I mention this is that it tends to be a Bowie song that isn't chosen very often. Wonder why... probably singing "Angel" in a falsetto places it in the too-hard-basket for most. That reason ofcourse didn't stop young Marilyn Manson creating his own alternative improvised mistake.

The two better covers are by Loose Ends (1986) and Mascara (1979).

Anyway, here is a mix I’m a little proud of. Enjoy!

I got a repost of an older DreamTime Mix for you today.

In memory of Richard Wright, I re-edited the whole Dark Side Of The Moon album by British band Pink Floyd. Next September The Dark Side Of The Moon album will be re-released as an Immersion Box Set. A Must!

I edited out most of the vocals, extended & shortend several tracks and turned the album into an extended instrumental piece. Besides the Original Album I also used excerpts from Speak To Me (Live @ Wembley '74), The Great Gig In The Sky (Live @ Wembley '74), Any Colour You Like (Live @ Wembley '74), The Mortality Sequence (Live in Brighton '72) and various other sources. I started & ended the mix with The Violent Sequence ('Zabriskie Point' Sessions '69), which is Richard Wright's piano solo demo of Us And Them. This mix clocks in at 39:15 minutes.

Hi Everybody!

I got a repost of an older DreamTime Mix for you today.

It's the 1979 single Comfortably Numb by British rock group Pink Floyd. You can find the original version of this track on their album The Wall.

I combined the Film Version, 'The Wall Live 1980-81' Version, the 1994 'Pulse' Live Version & the 2007 'Remember That Night' Live Version. I also used small snippets from the 'Every Brick In The Wall' Version, the 'Echoes' Compilation Version & Is There Anybody Out There as well as some additional sound effects. The final solo is 7+ minutes long and the whole track now clocks in at 13:00 minutes.

Thanx goes to MOB of the Harvested team, who send me a speed corrected file of the Film Version, which enabled me to improve on v1.0 - You will still be able to hear the fades between the concerts during the final solo, but all in all I think this version is an improvement.

These days I spotted a peace of music in the www I was looking for ages. And I must say, that without other people's fantastic work bringing up these little gems in a perfect quality, my results wouldn't be as good as they are. So, thank you everyone who makes these things possible! ;-)

Now, the today's track is one of the classical pop songs of the 80s, made from a very successful Australian band and hey, I live in Australia, so... ;-)

So, all I did was combining the vocal version with the dub version creating a 'chronovisor mix' with my best intentions to make it the most easy listening for you.

P.S.: This mix is dedicated to my beloved wife who I met today three years ago, and I thought by myself: 'Hey little girl...' ;-)

For those who were young in the 80s in South Africa...
Boom Boom Room was a very short-lived pop band from the UK who had little success, except for this single which became very successful in South Africa in 1986. It was also used in a TV commercial for Storm deodorant at that time and this is where I heard it the first time...and then never again until a few years back on Youtube. I extended the original 12" version to be longer for this mix.

Hello music.blog.lovers!

About 175 weeks ago I started with this mix series not knowing, if I ever would continue, and I almost didn't.

But recently I literally fell with my listening-ears on the Canadian based disc jockey and music producer JOEL THOMAS ZIMMERMAN, who started releasing progressive house music and trance tracks and also remixes in 2005.

His very DJ-friendly productions helped me a lots mixing myself a tribute CD to honour this guy, who really is 'the killer of the dancefloors of the world' to me these days.

A tracklist of this CD is tagged into the file and very easy to spot.

I obviously can't get to old for this type of dance music, which I am very glad for.

"The Living Daylights" was a revolutionary installment in the James Bond movie franchise. This 1987 movie was most notable, in that it was the first to star actor Timothy Dalton in the role of James Bond. And of course, the score by composer John Barry is, as always, memorable.

Continuing on from 1983's "A View to a Kill", in which Barry enlisted British new wave band Duran Duran to do the title song, here it is the Norway pop group a-ha who contributes the movie's title theme. While this song is memorable, and powerful in it's own right, a-ha themselves recorded what I thought was a far superior version of this song for their 1988 album "Stay On These Roads". This version always seemed to me to be more focussed, and powerful.

So, for this extended mix, while I did use some parts from the original song, and also the 12" extended mix based from that mix, I relied most heavily on the (in my view) far superior album cut. At various parts throughout the song, and especially during the overly bombastic beginning and ending of this mix, I made use of John Barry's orchestral version of this song as well. The result is an extended mix which I think truly captures the James Bond spirit.

This mix clocks in at a leisurely 9 minutes and 40 seconds

Eurythmics - Here Comes the Rain Again (808's Open Wind Mix)

Eurythmics have always been one of my favorite 80's synthesizer acts. When they first burst onto the Top 40 here in the USA with their song "Sweet Dreams" in 1983, they caused a sensation. The music was fresh, new, and of course the vocals of Annie Lennox are always distinctive.

The 1984 album Touch was of course their followup to the extremely successful Sweet Dreams album, and saw the Eurythmics continue their electronic style. A standout track from this album was the leadoff single "Here Comes The Rain Again". Although it did chart at #4 here in the USA, inexplicably no extended 12" mix was ever commissioned for this song. There was a remix album released in the UK, but this song was left off.

I have listened to many unofficial mixes of this song, including the Disconet mix, and another mix by fellow amateur remixer DJ Tony, and I decided it was time for me to add my version. This is made only using the album version, and again I sourced an acapella mix (which you can hear most clearly at the end of the mix), and used that to re-source an instrumental mix, and even a mix only using vocals and percussion, which you hear for about 5 seconds at the start of the second verse. Flange airplane effects are used at parts throughout the song, and on the vocals at the end of the mix as well. This song now has a true extended remix, worthy of it's 80's status as a classic track.

Running time for this track is 8 minutes 44 seconds

Erasure - Love is a Loser (808's Across the Nation mix)

In 1985, Vince Clarke, late of his recent musical experiments with Alison Moyet (Yazoo), and Feargal Sharkey (the one off single which was The Assembly), decided to put an ad in the London musical newspaper Melody Maker, looking for a vocalist. Out of many hopefuls to respond was Andy Bell, a very hopeful singer from Basildon. After some successful auditions, Erasure was born, becoming one of the most enduring acts to survive outside of the 80's.

Their debut album Wonderland in 1985 was my first introduction to this duo, and I've been a lifelong fan ever since. A number of remixes were spawned from the tracks on this album, but one that got sadly overlooked was "Love is a Loser", a really bouncy and joyful synthesizer track with a really addictive beat. I always thought this track deserved the extended 12" treatment, but it never happened.

So, I decided to fix this oversight once and for all. I used only the original track from the album, but managed to align instrumental sections to eventually isolate the vocals, synth lines, percussion, and even the bassline, then reassemble them together. I used flanging on the vocal and snare bits, and even added my own sampled percussion from a Roland TR-707 and 727 mahcine, two machines Vince used on the Wonderland album. The opening has almost a loping reggae feel to it, but this is most definitely a classic 80's extended remix track. Get ready for a trip back to 1985.

Running time for this mix is 6 minutes and 5 seconds.

Stevie Wonder - Master Blaster (Jammin') (808's extended mix)

I was a big fan of Stevie Wonder back in the day, and at age 11 I remember getting the album Hotter than July for Christmas. It had lots of wonderful tracks on it, but I always liked the message behind the reggae-influenced "Master Blaster".

I managed to get ahold of the 7" single of this, and noticed there was a VERY interesting dub mix on the other side, using all kinds of wild effects and interesting sounds. So in doing this mix, I decided I would blend this version with the original album cut.

In doing this mix, I didn't use a lot of straight edits ... for much of it the two mixes play on top of each other, but I will do crossfades at key points, including one part towards the end where Stevie sings acapella for about 2 bars.

The entire mix clocks in at 7 minutes and 19 seconds.
